If we are understanding what you are saying, your issue is that when you use the Study Collection, you want the Study Overlay to change the particular symbol that it uses. The only want to do that would be to program it using ACSIL. Refer to the information here: Advanced Custom Study Interface and Language (ACSIL) The other option would be to create Study Collections for each symbol that you are using and then add them as appropriate.
