SC ver 2098 I have the same issue and then some. Following your instructions & deleting Trade Activity doesn't remove old outdated symbols. Also, Option trades are showing up in the Symbol pulldown menu; I have never placed options trades using SC Trade Window; I have always placed options trades directly on IB's Trader Workstation interface. Please see screenshot attached. Thanks.
