Post From: Sierra Chart Market Statistics Calculations Change

Effective April 25, 2019 we made a change with market statistics calculations where when the best bid/ask prices, both go beyond the last trade price, then that is counted as a trade with no volume which then contributes towards the calculations like the TICK. Only when there is a further change in either of those prices and they are beyond the last trade price, will then that also be counted as a trade.

This allows the number of stocks at the open which participate in the TICK and other calculations to be higher and causes greater extremes in the TICK calculation.

We have been monitoring this change and we feel that is a good change since some of you point out that the market statistics calculations that Sierra Chart offers sometimes are different than other services. But we have consistently shown, that the calculations we have been providing are correct. We have written about this extensively. In any case, this change moves more towards the direction of what we can tell our users want.
