Here's the same chart book with the background colored based on dominant total volume at each price. I used 500,1000,2000 for thresholds.

"Can this be variable based on the total volume of the PNF?
As the prior PNF bar may have highest volume 7777* 1000 (Dark Red) and the next pnf may have highest volume (222*10) (Dark Red) rather than hard coding it?"

You're limited to the Numbers Bars Settings and, to my knowledge, you have to use the thresholds. It's what the shading is based on. Though someone else might have another solution.

Check out that link above that SC support posted. It tells you all the different ways you can shade the backgrounds.

For Volume, you have: Actual Volume, Dominant Total Volume, Volume Percentage. Those are all going to be based on prices within each bar only though.
