current bars often remain hidden

Very often I look at a chart or study and notice that it appears to not have changed or progressed since the last time I looked at it. Much to my dismay, I realize that, in fact, the bars ARE hidden because they have not moved to the left along the horizontal lower scale to expose the newest, most current bars. I then have to scroll manually to bring it current. What have I possibly done, or not done, that creates this very disturbing problem?
