Hello Sierra Chart Engineering, I had a strange issue today with my average price, after I purchased a few contracts, sold, and then added one more. I have Sierra Chart Denali and Sierra Chart Order Routing. Here's the breakdown: First fill was for 2 contracts at 3346. I sold one at 3348.75 a few minutes later. Added 1 more at 3349.75, for a total of 2 contracts. Sold both at 3350.75 because I didn't know what was going on with my average. I hit the BE button, but my stop got moved to 3344.75. My average should have been around 3347.75 or so after the first add. Sierra told me my average was 3349.75, and when I hit BE stop, 3344.75 was what was set. I took a screenshot. As you can see - after I took profits, and added a 2nd contract, my average displayed as 3349.75, which was the price at which I added. I can confirm my chart settings are set to "Use First In First Out Fill Matching for Open Position Average Price" What is the best way to accurately represent my average price based on my adds? I have also seen my average skewed even after selling a contract on the bid when long. I appreciate any guidance. |

I understand - but still remains the question of why my average increased after selling 1 contract, and still holding 1. Just now, I had 1 contracts with an average price of 3358, bought another at 3361.50, and sold 1 at 3361.50. This resulted in an average price of 3359.75. My average price was shown in the order window as 3361.50 after the sell. The value increased after I sold. I was expecting it to at least stay the same. I ended up stopping out, however it was difficult to tell in real time if I stopped break even, or took a loss. According to the trade activity log, I stopped at 3358.50. Perhaps I should use "Use Theoretical Position Average Price" as I seem to remember you telling me on another thread that SC Order Routing does not provide an average position price in the web based version. Use External Service Open Position Average Price would not report my average position price in Sierra Chart, correct? |

There should be no reason the calculation is wrong. It is not possible for us to validate this, without seeing the fill history, and getting a screenshot of what you are seeing. And also validating the average price calculation setting for the particular chart you are looking at the average price within.
