How do I download historical data for a list of symbols prior to actually opening the individual chart for those symbols.

Day trade bunch of hot stocks, so I constantly change symbols in the associated watchlist but do not open the chart until its needed, so its taking precious seconds of my execution time by the time it opens up the historical and intraday data.

Would like to know if this can be done in background by sierra without actually opening the chart.

Yes this is supported. Historical or Intraday charts?

when does the download begin for intraday and historical charts after the symbols are added to Intraday file update list. It seems data downloaded does not start immediately

We have updated the documentation to explain this:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/doc_GlobalSettingsMenu.html#IntradayFileUpdateList

Also the Intraday File Update List does not apply to Historical Daily charts.

Documentation doesn't clarify when dies the download begin. Is it milliseconds after updating list ? seconds after? Or later?

It is immediate.

It does not need to be documented because it is apparent through simple usage and it is implied. You can simply test it and verify it for yourself.
