Usability bug report: settings windows column widths

Hi guys,

the new Settings windows, e.g. for a specific chart, have some very irritating properties. It seems that they remember the settings for the width of the Setting name and Value columns based on 1. specific chart instance, and 2. group of settings combination within that instance.

So if you have a dozen charts in a chartbook and want to change something, each particular chart and group combination has its own setting for width, which means you have to manually adjust them (as by default columns are bunched to the left, where the setting name cannot be even read most of the time) for each group of settings, for each chart.

My suggestion is to ditch this saving of configuration of width of columns in the settings windows per chart (or other window type) *instance* and group, and keep it per "class" type, e.g. same width settings for all charts, or for global colors window etc.

Sure, this is a low priority thing, but just wanted to provide you with user feedback.

Thanks in advance!

This is remembered for each chart only:
It seems that they remember the settings for the width of the Setting name and Value columns based on 1. specific chart instance,

We do not know what you mean by this:
and 2. group of settings combination within that instance.

The widths are saved per chart. We will see about saving them globally.

I meant the tabs on top of the Chart settings, e.g. Display, Symbol etc. Changing the column widths of one tab of settings does not preserve that width on other tabs *most of the time*. For some tabs column width settings transfers over to them, for other not, it is very chaotic. There is zero value for users in changing this per tab or even per chart, please save the size of the chart settings window itself, and columns for the same type of window (e.g. Chart settings) globally.

Thanks!

Every tab absolutely has its own width settings. It has to be this way because the content is different.

If setting the width on one tab carries over to another tab that is a problem we need to fix.

This must never happen and we need to know how to reproduce this:
For some tabs column width settings transfers over to them

We will never allow widths to transfer between tabs. That is out of the question. Completely out of the question. Every tab is unique.

But we will add an option, to have the widths stored globally for the Chart Settings window.

That will fix it, thanks. If you can make that same option also save the size of the Chart windows itself, not just column widths. Right now I have to adjust the size of each Chart settings window again and again and there is no point in it, as all windows have the same settings inside.

Thanks!
