I was trading today in my hotel room using my SIMO hotspot which uses closest/fastest cell phone tower for internet connection. My internet connection info is 128 Mbps download and 50 Mbps upload with a ping of 67 ms and a jitter of 8 ms. All was going well...I entered one trade which was a winner and then a major problem occurred. My second order of the day went as follows...I placed a stop order to go short (with attached orders, one order to buy at my target and one order to buy my stop loss level). I have done hundreds of times without a problem. The price moved higher and my order to enter the market via my stop did not get triggered/filled...so, I tried to cancel the order right before I placed a new short order at a better price. I have a Cancel All button and a Flatten/Cancel All button on my chart that I use. However, the software would not recognize the cancel command on the unfilled order...it just stayed on the chart along with the child orders at the target and stop levels. As noted, I had placed a different go short order at a better price and that order did eventually get filled...but the original unfilled short order never got cancelled! When price went in my favor the price hit the previous order that was still on the chart (SC would not allow me to cancel that original order), I ended up with two short positions at two different prices. I frantically tried to flatten the position and cancel all attached orders (via my flatten cancel button which I have used successfully many times). The positions did get flattened but the attached child orders did not get cancelled and they remained on the chart....unlike anything that has happened before. Since my original two parent orders were to go short...I now had two sets of child orders to buy at my target levels that I could not cancel. I tried to using the cancel all command and I tried to cancel the orders directly on the SC chart where the orders appeared...but nothing worked. When the price got to that level, the child orders to buy got filled and now I had long positions I did not want. I was able to flatten those positions but only after price had moved against the long positions and I took a loss. Another different issue occurred yesterday while trading from the laptop with the same hotspot....my indicators failed to update and they just went blank. Price information was continuing to update and candlestick bars continued to form...just no indicator updates. I had to close the software and reopen and then everything was fine again. Trading from the chart yesterday was without incident. SC allowed my to flatten and cancel as usual. This has never happened before. My SC version is 2882 64-bit and Revision is 55723. Is this something related to a wireless connection? I have used my laptop to trade with the SC software via a wireless connection several times before without incident. Obviously, I quit live trading with my laptop since I can not take the risk of this happening again. Is this a problem you are aware of? If so, is there a fix? |

This does not make sense: ..my indicators failed to update and they just went blank.
The studies will not just simply go blank if they are currently displayed. This actually does not make sense either: Price information was continuing to update and candlestick bars continued to form...just no indicator updates.
The general reason though, why you would see the price box on the right side of the chart update but not studies, until the historical data is downloaded, is a lost market data connection. Refer to: Intraday Chart or Chart Bars Not Updating | Blank Intraday Chart | "Currently no data to display" message for Intraday Chart: 3.1 - Historical Data Being Downloaded So you had an Internet connectivity problem which also confirms why you had the trading issue. The other issue with trading definitely would be related to a connectivity issue. This would be related to the parent stop order, not being acknowledged which would be due to a connectivity issue: ..I placed a stop order to go short (with attached orders, one order to buy at my target and one order to buy my stop loss level). I have done hundreds of times without a problem. The price moved higher and my order to enter the market via my stop did not get triggered/filled...so, I tried to cancel the order right before I placed a new short order at a better price.
And once that order filled, you would not be able to cancel it. You could only flatten the position and cancel the child orders. We really have to verify everything that you are saying from the Trade Activity Log because there are some things that are not really making sense. For example, if you are able to get another stop order put in you should then be able to cancel other orders, or flatten the position. And cancel orders. Anyway, when you have a situation like this, this is the procedure to follow: Overview of Trading: Handling Non-Responsive Orders Due to Lost Connectivity This is a reliable way to get the position flattened and cancel working orders by sending a single command to the trading server. We would have to suspect the core problem is not getting an acknowledgment for submitted orders and that prevents them from being canceled. We will see if we can improve upon this, by putting the cancel request as a delayed action pending acknowledgment of the order, if it is not already. We will look into this. Only use a wired reliable connection: If so, is there a fix?
