We are powering down all of our CME servers at this time. CME is unavailable until the situation is corrected. This is quite serious. Update: to give you an idea of the seriousness of the problem, the inlet temperatures to our servers in that particular data center, are normally about 62° or lower, maybe even in the high 50s. When we checked the servers after we learned what was going on, we saw inlet temperatures of 125+ Fahrenheit. With an exhaust temperature of about 10° higher than that. At this time we do not even have access to our servers. The VPN that we used to access them, is not giving us connectivity to the low-level Dell iDRAC management system. So we do not even have the ability to bring the systems up, without intervention, by our service provider in Aurora. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. From Reuters: "It's a nightmare," said one trader who declined to be named as he was not authorised to speak to the media.

The interesting thing is, several months ago we requested, connectivity to CME Aurora, to our location in Michigan. So this would give us an alternative location to route orders from. That never moved forward due to technical reasons, which we never got an answer for. We are going to check on this again. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. I hope the issue will be resolved quickly. Also, I think another live data feed should be provided to us until the problem is fixed.Have a good day

Serious egg on the face for CME. A single datacenter.... I cannot believe a single datacenter can take them out, no redundancy... at all?

Systems are gradually coming up. Make sure you are on an up-to-date version of Sierra Chart. Very very important for the proper connectivity because our primary Internet for Teton is down, but we do have backup Internet. Yes you should have market data now and should be able to connect to Teton through our backup Internet. If you cannot connect, update Sierra Chart! Order entry was not possible until about two minutes ago. There was an issue, with security definition data. Side effect of the Internet being down, but we worked around it. We know that does not make sense, but that it is just one thing triggering another problem and another problem. Sierra Chart Support - Engineering Level Your definitive source for support. Working for me now. The missing data from 21:48 to 8:30, does that data exist and is there a way to get it? Or is there no data for anyone during that period? |

The exchange was down during that time. So there is no data to recover. There is no data missing.

Luckily I did not have any trades on, but a question for in case this happens again in the future. Say a trader has a few contracts on right before CME locks up (say their servers overheat again), what happens to our positions when the market re-opens? Is this a rare situation where the re-opening price can skip right over our stop? Are traders just out of luck in a situation like this? |

Regarding post #20, since the CME (The exchange) was down, there would be no market activity. No orders would be filled at all for anyone during this downtime.

I meant if we had a live position on before the halt, or do all orders get closed by CME in instances like this?

We did see a message from the CME that they did cancel the day orders but the good till canceled orders continued. All existing Positions remained. Gotcha, so then in these rare instances when the markets re-open price could gap up or down and skip your stop entirely (if you had a position on BEFORE the halt)
