Hi
I'm using Volume Value Area lines study to plot prior day's Volume Area Lines(High & Low), as shown in the attached screenshot.
They do correctly show the prior VAH & VAL lines, once today's Day session opens.
But when analyzing the Value areas in the premarket hours, they still reflect the day before yesterday's VAH/VAL lines(ie 2 days before).., as shown in the attached screenshot.

How do I get it to always plot the DAY session of Prior day , in today's premarket hours.., in both RTH and ETH charts.

thanks

From what you are describing, we think the issue is the Input for "New Period at Day Session Start When Using Evening Session". Set this to "No" and you should get what you want.

Thanks for the response..In today's premarket time(about 9am or so), I did try setting that setting to No and I didnt see a difference though.

LEt me replay (go back to premarket hours) the chart , with that setting set to No and observe again.

Went back to premarket hours today via replay.
Even if I change that setting to No, it still shows the VAH,VAL lines from the day before yesterday, not yesterday's value area.
However right now , with market open, it does show the prior day value area lines correctly.

What are your "Draw Styles" set to for the VAH and VAL subgraphs?

Update: On checking again, I notice this issue only on the RTH chart(ie Use EVening session=No). On the ETH chart including Evening session, On replay, the plotted value area lines appear OK(ie shows prior day's VAH/VAL lines, with that setting set to No).
I was hoping this would work as intended, on both RTH and ETH charts, based on calendar days.

What is the situation with an RTH only chart? What are you seeing in this case and when?

The issue I mentioned in my first post about value area lines from day before yesterday(and not yesterday's) and screenshot I attached is whats still happening with the RTH chart..., with the setting "New Period at Day Session Start When Using Evening Session", set to either Yes or No. That setting doesnt seem to be effective for RTH.
But on ETH chart, with Evening session, its plotting yesterday's VAH/VAL lines, correctly, with that config set to NO.

We are not able to reproduce this. When we do this, everything shows as you are expecting it to. And we certainly never see the day before yesterday's data.

Please get us your chart so we can take a look and see if we can reproduce it with your chart. Follow these instructions to get us your chart:

I am sending it shortly..,but just to confirm, did you actually check it during the premarket hours(before 9:30am NYT) on an RTH chart(Use Evening session=No)?

What I'm thinking is happening is , say today 09/25 at 9am NYT , on an RTH chart, without evening session, the current day is treated as the last trading day(09/24)..,which is yesterday. and the Prior day value area reflects the day before yesterday(09/23)...,but once the session opens, it correctly shows the prior day value area from yesterday..

But on the ETH chart, with evening session, with that setting set to NO, it works as expected during the premarket hours too.

We do not understand how you can have the chart showing data for 09:00 when it is an RTH only chart. By definition, the chart should only start at 09:30.

This is why we need to see your chart, as there must be something about how you have it setup that is different from how we are doing our testing.

k, looks like a misunderstanding. I do not mean, the RTH chart shows 9AM. It starts at the market open(9:30am). I mean it during the premarket hours before 9:30am (clock time, not chart time), is there a way for the RTH chart to show yesterday's value area(day session only) lines. The chart image I sent earlier is RTH. If not, now that we got the ETH chart work as expected with that setting disabled, I might be good.

Thanks

Ok, we understand now. The answer is "No" for the given study. You would have to add another copy of the study and then display those lines, which are not referencing back one day.

You could use the "Color Bar Based on Alert Condition" or a Spreadsheet Study to control the display of the particular set of lines that you want to see based on time. The Spreadsheet Study would be the easier one to use, but it would require reloading the chart at the end of the day when you want to change the lines. The Color Bar Based on Alert Condition would handle updating all of the chart bars.

For instance, with the Spreadsheet Study, you would have a condition that looks like the following:
=IF(NOW() < TIME(09, 30, 00), ID1.SG1@3, 0)

This will give you the line defined by the Study ID of 1 and the first subgraph of that study displaying if the time is between Midnight and 09:30.

You would have to expand this out to get exactly what you want, but it can be done.
