Hi all,

I've been working on these 2 studies with good success so.... here they are:

jdtTrendCatcher:

Trend Reversal Indicator. This indicator uses a combination of Three Line Break, John Carter's Value Chart, Heikin-Ashi, and Three Bar Reversal. Entry arrows are dispayed when the TLB and HA are in agreement. The dots are overbought/oversold indications using the VC calculations. The 3BR is indicated by outlining the candles in yellow(sell) or white(buy).

jdtMDBBHA:

Strength and Direction Indicator based on the MACD, Bollinger Bands, and Heiken-Ashi studies. This study supplies multiple entry/exit confirmations.

I've included a screenshot of them in action today.

UPDATE: 2/15/2009
I have updated these studies to assure they function correctly on Forex Charts. Displacement and Price inputs are now Floats (decimals).

Also added a new study:
jdt Trailing Stop - I used Kiwi's Trailing Stop (Thanks Kiwi) as a base and, instead of drawing lines, I print the StopLoss value (either in offset (default) or Buy/Sell price) in the upper right of the chart window.

The trailing lines are still available if you 'UN-IGNORE' them but they are no longer uni-directional (You get Buy and Sell stops no matter the trend).

Is that the green and red dots that appear above/below your candles sometimes in your screenshot?

No, those are overbought/oversold signals from J.Carter's Value Chart study. I draw the dot when the preceding bar was over the user set limit (I use 8) and the current bar is less than that limit - indicating that the trend is subsiding. Hopefully ;)

Looks like a bunch of C# (C Sharp) code. Similar to C++. One could possibly convert the underlying indicator code to SC C++ code.

I'm new to Sierra. I put these files in the directories, but they don't show up at all in my studies menu. How to get to show up?

TIA

All you need is the DLL file in post number 28. This is the file with the DLL extension. Please follow the steps on this page to use it:

Ok, now the problem is the studies in the main window are all squashed. It's a forex chart, and I'm guessing there is different scaling for forex. How to unsquash?

TIA

Hi Jeff,

You're right, I wrote this for my futures trading and used integers for offsets, displacements, etc... These don't scale well on a Forex chart. Give me a few days and I'll update it so that you can use floats (decimals) for offsets and such.

I don't have a Forex feed so you'll have to work with me on getting it set up correctly for you.

I assume the MACD/Bollinger study works ok?

All SC packages include access to the SC Forex real-time and historical data feed. So you have access to Forex data.

Hi Jeff,

You should be good to go. The Admin straightened me out on the Forex data issue (I had it all the time, just had to change Data/Trade Service). Just go back to post 28 and download the updated dll and replace your current one. The default settings are still based on futures charts but now you can set displacements and price in decimals.

Hi Jsyd, everything seems to scale correctly now.
What are the MAs in your screenshot?

Thanks for updating it for forex!

7 and 14 SMA (233 tick chart). Adjust to your chart times, for example, 9 and 18 seem to work better on a 1 minute chart

Any chance this can be programmed into a paint bar study.

My knowledge of C++ is nil and and attempt would be futile on my side.

My thinking was red dots = red bars, green dots = green bars, plotted in Region 1.

Or even better, include it as one whole file, paint bar and the lower indicator as one.

the JDT MACD/BB/HA study is an awesome tool, along the same methology as the one I was trying to create but not as visually as nice or useful.

We have a new study called Color Bar Based on Alert Condition and it might do what you want. It will color bars where the Simple Alert Condition is true. For instructions to create a simple alert for the study see:
