Any assist would be very appreciated! I recently upgraded to this machine:

Apple M1 Max chip with 10-core CPU, 32-core GPU, and 16-core Neural Engine
64GB unified memory
2TB SSD storage
16-inch Liquid Retina XDR display
Three Thunderbolt 4 ports, HDMI port, SDXC card slot, MagSafe 3 port

I was expecting to bootcamp the hard drive with windows in order to run Sierra Chart natively, rather than through any kind of virtual desktop. My previous mac had bootcamp and I ran SC with no prob, but this new M1 chip does not support it. I was like WTF.

I am now at a crossroads about what to do. There were some posts last year about methods to run SC on a virtual desktop (Codeweavers Crossover) but I am wondering if SC supports Windows 11 on ARM through parallels and is the user experience optimal?

Anyone have any experience with this?

PS. Love SC and do not want to switch platforms! SC crew, any chance a mac version of SC is ever coming?

We are not familiar with the M1 CPU. We are looking to support the ARM processors though.

Works for me.
M1 Max 24c GPU Parallels 17 Windows 11 ARM.

I had major issues with lag on crossover.

On both, the shift key doesn't work. So any hotkeys or shift + mouse wheel won't work.

Downloaded and installed Parallels 17 Windows 11 ARM. But SC isn't installing.

Did you do anything other than follow the installation prompts for the current version of SC?

I am getting this in the Log file:
Failed to create folder: SierraChart\DownloadedInstallationFiles\ACS_Source\. Windows error code 3: The system cannot find the path specified. | 2022-01-04 17:44:15

UPDATE: I specified the recommended path C:SierraChart and I got SC to install and load.

I needed to create the folder first, as the installer didn't create the path by default, due to the virtual machine file nesting protocols, I suppose.

Can I ask how your experience has been so far. I have the same Mac with the same specifications on order. Wondering if I need to cancel it if I can’t get SC to work. Thank you

The experience so far has been pretty flawless. I tether into an external monitor with HDMI and, yeah, it's been good. I would recommend the install specs I mentioned above, speaking purely from my experience.

Are you also having the issue with the shift key not working in SC but working in desktop?

How many monitors do you use with your m1 Mac? I use at least 4 monitors on my PC but interested in using Mac!

Thanks

I ran in on my M1 MacBook Pro with Parallel. No problems at all.

For Parallels users, wonder if it's better to do one time purchase
or year by year subscription?

Thanks!

I run 4 monitors on the M1 max with parallels no problems at all. My old MacBook used to over heat badly with this setup. With the new Mac it is barely working to run multiple platforms at once.

Is everyone running Windows on the same single hard drive or implementing an external SSD?

Same hard drive for me. No issues doing so.

For you Parallels users, are you using the standard version with the core and memory caps or the "Pro" version? I used the standard on the free trial but it SEEMED sluggish, probably just me.
thank you

@User53741 I am using the standard version and while SC works ok I did run into RAM issues, where the VM would tell me I need more RAM. The standard version can use up to 8 GB. The mac I have has 32 GB so theoretically the pro version would help here. I did not go for it though because I only get this message when I am downloading lots of historical data for analysis, which is not something I am going to be doing everyday.

In general, my issue with SC on Parallels is not that SC works badly or slowly or anything like that. I don't like how Parallels integrates into MacOS desktop. It just feels off - windows do not scale properly, for example. Some programs run ok in Coherence Mode (meaning each program has its own windows that MacOS desktop can manage instead of one window for the VM, where you see Windows desktop), some not. SC runs ok in Coherence, but if I need to launch another program on the VM that doesn't, then I have a problem. Also, Windows 11 is really a pain to use, at least in the VM. I strongly dislike it. So having to deal with that OS is frustrating because one of the main reasons why I migrated to Linux and now MacOS was to get away form that software platform.

Long story short, M1 laptop is great hardware, but I am not very happy with the OS. I am keeping an eye on Asahi Linux project, which is working on getting M1 hardware running on linux. The initial release is already here and people are quite happy with it. However, there's still missing support for things that I absolutely need for SC such as multiple monitor support, USB-C/Thunderbolt support etc.

I am sure it will come with time. For the time being, Parallels is good enough.
