With most, if not all of my overlays using one second charts, during a live price feed the overlay last price keeps spiking to zero.

Please help.

What specific Overlay study are you using and what are you overlaying?

We did not look at the Chartbook. We generally are afraid to look at Chartbooks we have not asked for because they are extremely complicated usually, and we are not going to try to sort through them and understand what user is doing.

Even when we ask for Chartbooks, they usually contain lots of charts and lots of studies, and they often get disregarded. Even when we have specified to provide only one or two charts.

If you are going to provide a Chartbook, it needs to be extremely simple, consist of only 2 charts and only the studies necessary to demonstrate the problem.

Thanks for your reply.

These are new charts I've been trying to build. Since the charts are all 1 sec charts, I use the Study Overlay - OHLC study. But the problem persists when I use the Study/Price Overlay study.

Using 1 sec charts, I'm multiplying ZF times 6J, then overlaying the result on to another 1 sec ZF chart. Then I apply a Kase study to the last ZF chart.

When I remove the Kase study, the problem seems to go away. So, I use an enhanced Renko study instead. That gives me this error:

Chart: ZF-201406-CBOT [M] 1 Sec #3 | ZF-201406-CBOT [M] 1 Sec #3 | Study: ZF-201406-CBOT [M] 1 Sec #1 Renko - BoxSize: 6 | Renko Chart Enhanced study: Error due to either data error or Brick Size too small. Stopping processing and skipping to next input bar. Try increasing the Brick Size. | 2014-03-23 19:48:05

That's after having increased the brick size up to 6 ticks.

So, I remove the Renko study and use a Tick Chart for the last ZF chart. That seems to be working OK. It's not what I wanted, but perhaps I can use it.

I have another setup that's been spiking down for a while, but I haven't investigated it. In this one, I create spread charts for the FOB, FYT, and ZOB spreads using the Difference (Single Line) study. Then I average those spreads and overlay the result on a 1 min ZF chart.

It just seems as though there's some problem with the data from overlays. But I have no idea what charts or other imformation might be helpful.

Yes, the tick chart is working fine with no problems. I'm OK with that.

Thanks.

This is an advanced set up and it is outside the scope of our support to provide specific help with this. You are also using unsupported studies which are apparently leading to the problem according to what you have observed. The Renko studies are no longer supported.

We recommend only using the standard Renko bars which is set in Chart Settings:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/doc_RenkoCharts.html

This is really the only item we can help with. Other than to recommend try using the Study/Price Overlay study and set Draw Zeros to No.

Thanks! That was very helpful.

When I read, a while back, that the Renko studies were unsupported, I found the Renko settings under Graph Draw Type, but I never noticed the settings under Intraday Bar Period. I tried the Draw Type Renko bars, but I couldn't get much out of them, so I went back to using the Renko studies.

Now, I find the Flex Renko Bar Period actually does a better job of what I was trying to accomplish than what I was using when I started this thread. And I don't notice any problems at all in using it with overlays.

Thank you very much!
