Incorrect GC Rollover/Expiration

I am trading GC-201402-CME with a live position, my chart settings had rollover automatically selected.

My chart and trade window changed to GC-201404-CME without notice, and showed my position as flat. I tried to set it back to GC-201402-CME and it would not change until I unchecked rollover automatically. Now it shows 'symbol expired, click to rollover'. This goes away but re-appears if I reload a chart. The continuous contract charts set to volume based rollover also changed, but GC-201404 volume has not passed GC-201402 yet.

GC rollover from the CME site is: 'Trading terminates on the third last business day of the delivery month', which matches my rollover settings under Symbol settings. This should happen on 2/26/14.

1. How can I fix the rollover/expired issue?
2. Is it possible to be notified before a chart rolls over automatically?
3. Is it possible to set an alert comparing symbols for when volume rolls to the next contract?

1. You need to adjust the settings for this in Global Settings >> Symbol Settings.

Here is the documentation:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/doc_GlobalSymbolSettings.php

The exchange specifications make reference to the last trading day. If you hold a contract to that point, you know that your can be subject potential delivery. Which can be a hassle to get out of if you do not want to take delivery. Although these days with gold, it seems as though the situation is exactly the opposite. Seems like the exchange would be happy to cash settle rather than deliver.

If you look closely at the settings in Global Symbol Settings, the rollover is based on a certain number of days before the delivery month.

2. No. Because this goes against the general design philosophy of Sierra Chart not to annoy users with prompts that have to be acknowledged. If you do not want the automatic rollover, then uncheck Automatically Rollover Futures Symbol and handle it on your own.

3. No.

The continuous contract charts set to volume based rollover also changed, but GC-201404 volume has not passed GC-201402 yet.
The Volume-based rollover only applies to historical futures contracts loaded in the chart. Not the current symbol which is rolled over based on a date rule.

Thank you, that cleared up a lot.

So if not using automatic rollover, the rollover settings are not used anywhere?

Being able to set an alert when volume rolls would be very useful.

They are used for the Continuous Futures Contract feature.

1. The issue with automatic rollover on a set day is it might be before volume has rolled, and if you trade from the charts, you might not want your charts to automatically roll over without notice while you are already in a position, and suddenly show you as flat, this was my issue today. A notification prompt could be an option/setting.

2. The issue with not using automatic rollover is you have to watch it every day and manually compare the volume yourself. Tonight I ended up trading the back month as volume rolled to April and I did not realize it, and it cost me $$$ in slippage several times. An alert could have prevented this.

3. Automatic Volume based rollover would be a good idea, it could be at least as good as an automatic date based rollover, at least it would definitely be with the volume. It could also have an option to alert and/or roll at a configurable % of the next contract volume, ie 90%.
