To give you all an idea of the very high efficiency and performance of Sierra Chart software and servers we want to give you the following example of downloading historical tick data:

When our server downloaded 1 year of historical tick data for BTC USD from MTGox over high-capacity data center lines, it took about two hours. Multiple data requests were necessary for this.

When the same data is delivered through our Bitcoin Data service within Sierra Chart, it will take around 1 minute. Either lower or less depending upon the speed of your Internet connection. This is a real dramatic difference. You can test this by doing the following:

Select Global Settings >> Data/Trade Service Settings.
Set the Intraday Data Storage Time Unit to 1 Tick.
Set the Maximum Historical Intraday Days to Load to 365.

Open a BTCUSD chart and then after the download is finished, go to Edit >> Delete All Data and Download to download the 1 year of tick data.

Once we get a reliable data feed from MTGox, and we did hear from them on this, then we should be offering a really good service here with trading support.

Update: We are now adding in 2 years of historical tick by tick data from MTGox, and this is taking literally an entire working day to get all of the data and there are numerous timeouts from their server. Whereas Sierra Chart can deliver 2 years of tick by tick data to individual users reliably, assuming you have a good Internet connection, in less than 2 minutes consistently every time.

This is because the Tick Size is too small. We have corrected this. Please go to the chart you are currently looking at. Do the following:

Select Global Settings >> Symbol Settings.
Press the Update From Server button.

Press OK.

Go to the chart and select Chart >> Chart Settings.
Press the Apply Global Symbol Settings button. The tick size for BTC USD should be .01.
Press OK.

Do this for each chart.

You should notice a dramatic difference with performance when using any study that involves the Volume at Price data now.

I did install non-, NET version of Sierra Chart – and BTCeChartFeed for it.
http://sourceforge.net/projects/btcechartfeed/?source=dlp

” Start the feed
Run Sierrachart software
Once loaded, click on File->New/Open Historical chart then select LTC_BTC.csv and/or LTC_USD.csv ”

After following these instructions and choosing LTC_BTC – some hours of chart did appear but not more. And with LTC_USD opened, no chart did appear.

Is there any way to get more data displayed ?

When I load the feed (BTCUSD) as instructed, I don't get the data for the current day - data ends at 4-19 23:59 and resumes at whatever point I started the software again, no matter if historical or intraday chart. Is this a setting I am overlooking?

I installed SC yesterday and was on free account which was restricted so could not do anything. Today upgraded to Package 2 but this is still not working. I cannot download any data. Read this thread and followed the advice to do:

"Select Global Settings >> Data/Trade Service Settings.
Set the Intraday Data Storage Time Unit to 1 Tick.
Set the Maximum Historical Intraday Days to Load to 365.

Open a BTC USD chart and then after the download is finished, go to Edit >> Delete All Data and Download to download the 1 year of tick data."

However this still does not help. Message which can be seen in logs states 'Server does not have data for symbol BTCUSD. Received 0 records and wrote 0 records'.

Could you guys help me?

Post #35: I have same settings as you described. Intraday chart does not work for me right now. But this could be caused just by wrong chart setting. At top right corner I can see green text 'DT: 22826 ST:2'. I presume this means connection is working and ticks are being downloaded.

Most important thing for me is historical data. From your response it seems we need to wait couple more days to be able to download historical data? This is fine with me.

Thank you for help!

My data seemed to skip 4/20 somehow.. I had a data connection interruption on the 19th.. now I have this big gap in data after using Edit->Delete all data and redownload several tries now.

Here's 2 screenshots that show the data gap

We suspect the port that is being used for downloading data is being throttled by your ISP. You may need to use port 80 but we will confirm.

We finally realize the issue!!. Our server is designed to not serve back Saturday Data according to UTC time. This is why it's getting filtered. We are going to patch this now.

This is why the problem was rather puzzling.

As we were looking at it, we did notice another small performance detail and also an issue involving millisecond timestamps that needed attention.

Is it possible to divide somehow volume by 10000? I understand you want to provide as much information as possible but I do not think many people are interested in such detailed volume information on MtGox. Maybe in 5-10 years time such information will be more valuable. However currently it is rather confusing seeing all those zeros in volume study.

My suggestion would be to either revert your change and provide volume information in whole bitcoins or provide instructions how customers can make such an adjustment by themselves.

Yes, Chart Options (F5) -> Advanced Settings 2 -> "Volume/Open Int. Modifier" -> Set to 0.0001

This rounds volumes to a minimum of 1.

In the latest version we have also added a Volume-Bitcoin study that you may want to use. The volumes are converted back to a floating-point value.

Oh very nice, i missed that, thanks :-)

BTW: Currently the price is "stuck" at 125.34 in the scale. But possibly that's because mtgox socketio is down atm?
