Sierra Chart now offers 2 BitCoin data feeds.

Follow these instructions:

1. Update Sierra Chart to 968. To do this select Help >> Download Prerelease.

2. Select Global Settings >> Data/Trade Service Settings.

3. Set the Service to:
"BitCoin Data (MTGox)" or
"BitCoin Data (Bitstamp)"

4. Press OK.

5. Select File >> Connect to Data Feed.

6. Open a chart by selecting File >> Find Symbol.

Limitations:

Historical Charts are not supported. Only Intraday charts. Historical charts should be supported within the next few days.
Only the pairs that begin with BTC are currently supported.

Over the next 2 to 3 weeks, we will be adding trading support for MTGox and Bitstamp assuming no technical complications.

Hi I have a question, I'm new to Sierra, and trading in general. With the update, are we also able to trade on Mt.Gox in this platform? and If so, maybe you could elaborate on how to connect a mtgox account to sierra charts.

- Thanks

Hi

BTC charts show up and update well, but Litecoin LTE pair graphs do not get displayed.
After find symbol --> LTCUSD --> Open intraday chart -- Only black empty workspace appears.

If instead, Open historical chart is chosen --
then the messages " Downloading historical data " and " Historical download complete "
-- and empty black workspace do appear.

So you all know, one thing we are noticing is that we keep losing the connection to the MTGox source data feed about every 20 minutes, however we automatically reconnect. This past hour we also noticed 2 interruptions lasting 3 minutes.

We see that the MTGox data feed is not entirely reliable and also from an engineering perspective, its technical implementation really is very confusing and not well structured. They are using what is called a web socket and then on top of that Socket I/O . This is unnecessary and the method by which this is implemented is not technically correct. So we are not very impressed with the MTGox data feed. This is just a comment.

They also do not provide an efficient data feed. However, this is not of much significance for us.

Aside from all this, we are going to do the very best we can to provide a reliable Bitcoin data feed.

We have created a new Sierra Chart package. It is package 2. Please refer to:
http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/Packages.php#Table

It has a lower price and supports Bitcoin only. This is intended for new users who just want to chart the Bitcoin markets.

thanks! ran it over night and it looks nice. I did lose the real-time feed a couple of times during big moves (e.g. @04:52 America/Chicago) but the chart recovered. I'd rather see Bitstamp before BTC-E.
We will look at adding trading support for Bitstamp.

We have now cut over to our improved Bitcoin data feed from MTGox.

You will now notice the Volume numbers more accurately reflect the true volume. A volume of 10000 represents 1 Bitcoin . And a volume of 1 represents 0.0001 Bitcoin .

We have loaded in 2 years of historical Tick by tick Bitcoin data for all of the currencies.

To access this historical data in existing charts, go to the chart and select Edit >>Delete All Data and Download.

Great. Also, I'm finding the volume very confusing and overwhelming, it would be great to see a decimal place.

keep it up!

There is no easy solution for the Volumes because Sierra Chart does not use a decimal point in volumes and implementing something like that is not really realistic at this time.

Although it is relatively easy for us to create a new Volume study that will use a decimal point. We will do that. We will probably call it "Volume-Bitcoin".
