FREQUENT disconnections - beginning to become untradeable

Hi team,

I am executing with Tradovate (CQG) via Sierra Chart. I'm getting constant disconnections where the price feed will freeze for a while, then spring back to life and reconnect 20-30 seconds later. I've lost money because of it and it is becoming so bad that I need to consider whether I can keep using Sierra... which would be a shame as I love it and m only just starting to get the hang of the spreadsheets etc. I asked Tradovate if they could shed light on this given I see it has been identified as a CQG related problem, but no dice. Said it is entirely a Sierra issue.

I see in prior posts this is said to be a CQG issue... having said that, the price feed is unaffected in the Tradovate platform... no disconnections there... it is just in Sierra. Any ideas to fix this would be greatly appreciated... let me know what information you need to investigate.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers,
Mitch

We cannot help you if you want to use Tradovate. We know where the problem lies and this is explained here:
CQG Trading Platform Service: Frequent Server Disconnections when Using CQG

This is the solution we recommend you use:
Sierra Chart / Trading Technologies Futures Order Routing Service

Also have a read through this thread:
Sierra Chart Order Routing Service to Trading Technologies(TT) Cross Connect

the price feed is unaffected in the Tradovate platform..
This does not even use the CQG Web API or involve the CQG server at all. This is further proof that this is a CQG issue or some network connectivity issue.

What we are going to do for you is set you up with the Denali Exchange data feed with the CME Group data without market depth effective May 1.

Could you please complete the agreement here:
https://www.sierrachart.com/UserControlPanel.php?page=ExchangeAgreements

Let us know when that is done and then the next step is we need to activate this May 1.

Hi Team,

Apologies for missing this last week... I have completed the agreements this morning, so if we could get this on the go from this week that would be much appreciated.

Let me know if you need anything else from my end.

Did you require market depth data? Or just the top of book data. And what exchanges did you need specifically?:
CME
CBOT
NYMEX
COMEX

Thanks very much... is there a way to know once it is flowing through? Also, wondering if you can shed some light … I am currently paying double data fees + $15 pert month to Tradovate to get their data feed through to sierra for execution, am I able to ask them to cancel this now without affecting order routing?

Cheers,
Mitch

You should see a [M] indicator after the symbol on the chart which would indicate, the data is coming from the Denali exchange data feed.

You have to ask your broker about their data fees. We are not sure about this. There is no cost for the Denali data feed this month.

Thanks for that, will do. I can see the M on the charts so assume it is doing what it's supposed to.

I'm still having frequent disruptions in the price feed however, is there anything else I need to be doing on my end?

In this case you have lost the connection to the Denali Exchange Data Feed:

SC Data - All Services | There has been no activity on the network socket for 40 seconds. Will reconnect. | 2020-05-11 18:39:09.594

There must be some problem with your Internet connection. There is little other explanation for this. We know there is no trouble at all with connectivity from New Zealand since this is one of the locations we monitor from. Connectivity is stable for days at a time without loss connections.

Are you using a wireless connection?

You need to have your ISP examine your connection thoroughly.

Hmm... Not wireless, am plugged directly into the router.

Also, there is no disruption to the price feed/connection via the tradovate platform... it flows seamlessly while SC does its constant disconnecting thing. I'm baffled.

Well it is quite clear to us there is some problem with connectivity you are having on your side somewhere or with your ISP.

We cannot speak about that other program.

You should not have any trouble at all receiving this data feed and maintaining the connection. For there to be a problem with the data feed not being received for a whole 40 seconds, at 6:40 PM US Central Time shows something is wrong on your side:

SC Data - All Services | There has been no activity on the network socket for 40 seconds. Will reconnect. | 2020-05-11 18:39:09.594

That is an overwhelming indication you have a network connectivity issue on your side somewhere. Which can also include your ISP.

In addition to the above, the only other thing that comes to mind but should not lead to the following message, is Sierra Chart in an inoperable frozen state for 40 or more seconds at a time? But that will not lead to this problem due to the fact the data feed processing is on another thread.

SC Data - All Services | There has been no activity on the network socket for 40 seconds. Will reconnect. | 2020-05-11 18:39:09.594

Ok no worries, thanks for your help, much appreciated.

I will look into the connectivity side more thoroughly on my end.

We have prepared this additional information which may be helpful:
https://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?page=doc/helpdetails1.php#LostConnectionsToServer

And also you may notice less of a problem with CQG as compared to the Denali Exchange Data Feed because of the fact that we made changes to be much more tolerant of connectivity problems with CQG as compared to our own feeds, since CQG connectivity problems occur so often for users.

Thanks guys much appreciated!

Sorry to be a pain, but while I am still in the trial period for the Denali feed can we please end it and revert to the CQG feed? Now that we know it isn't the feed it doesn't make sense to keep going with this at this stage.

Thanks again for your service.

Cheers,
Mitch
