Hello,

We are actively working on providing Real-time streaming Bit Coin prices, historical data and complete trading support. We initially will be supporting MTGox.

If you are interested in other exchanges, please let us know what they are.

We wish we had done this sooner. We did have a discussion more than 2 years ago with MTGox about providing Sierra Chart to their customer base but we did not go forward with at the time because we were just too busy with other things and were a little concerned about the poor reputation of Bit Coin at the time because it was being used on not so legitimate websites and at least one government was not happy about it and looking into it.

At this time we can see that it does have clear legitimacy so we are actively moving forward with support for it now.

What really is good about this is that it is decentralized and there are no exchange fees for market data. Still though it does have a long way to go. And commission rates can be high when trading in big quantities.

At this point, it certainly is experimental, and none of us know what kind of technical problems can occur with it as time goes by. But we do think that the concept is an interesting one. Certainly it is not a replacement for true real money like gold and silver and other hard assets, but it does have at the very least some role in the marketplace at least for Internet-based transactions.

1-3. Please just give us a few days and we will be streaming all of the bit coin pairs from MTGox directly into Sierra Chart. So there will be no need for that bridge.

Plus you will be able to do live trading from Sierra Chart charts and the trade DOM. Order modifications will also be supported. So you will not have to cancel and reenter an order.

We are not familiar with that software to assist with it. It was not developed by us.

I just saw the MtGox feed option in the current prerelease. However it's complaining about my service package. Is this feature going to require a higher-level service package? Or is this just how it's being prevented from being used as it's not fully odne?

Also, where are you going to be getting your historical data from, and will it be tick-level? Most people get historical tick-level data from bitcoincharts, but their service is very frequently offline.

The MTGox data feed is not ready yet. Should be by the weekend.

Historical data will be maintained by our own servers. And we will obtain the initial history for the most popular bit coin crosses from other sites. The data that we maintain will be tick by tick.

Also the real-time data will also come from our own servers.

Hopefully you are going to add also Litecoin pairs to the datafeed including LTE/BTC LTE/EUR and LTE/USD.

As Bitcoin, Litecoin is also a going to be fixed quantity deflationary currency and should therefore have great and upside potential. Seen from the short time period as 1 hour chart it is already liquid, does not just move erratically up and down.

Ps. the old Sierracart feed for Bitcoin is working for me now despite error message " HTTP error 503. Service temporarily unavailable. Use -y to disable history "

The connection for the bit coin market data feed is being worked on over the weekend. We will update this thread when it becomes available. We will try for tomorrow, but we cannot guarantee it.

The 2 issues we have faced are interruptions in the MTGox data feed which prevents us from doing testing. Also order quantities use a decimal point. Sierra Chart uses only integers for order quantities. The tentative solution right now is that trade quantities will be converted to an integer and we will divide by 10. So for example a trade of 2.71 will become 270000000/10 =27000000.

The light coin pairs are going to be included.

How one should proceed with the latest todays Sierra Chart release to get the BTC currency pairs dsplayed ?

After choosing YES to ,," if you want to open the Data / Trade Service Settings window to configure
it to the use of one of these services,,,."

I did choose the Global Settings --> Data/Trade Service settings ---> Service ---> Bitcoin data.

Then I did go to the File --> Find Symbol --> choose Bitcoin data, but the available symbols
field was blank.

There was an other open field: " Selected symbol ( Or enter a symbol in this box ): "

When mtgoxEUR was feeded to this field and " Open intraday chart " selected, a message "Historical
download complete " appeared on the workspace -- but no chart did show up.

Then I did go to the File New/Open intraday chart -- and did find on my hard drive the file mtgoxEUR.scid
-- and when opened by double left mouse click -- black empty workspace did open but with no chart.

-- If you still configure the Bitcoin exhanges, the other exhanges of interest are at least:

Bitfloor, because of it s liquidity -- and less choppy and " geometrically logical" charts for trendline and
chart pattern analysis.

Btc-e, because it is alongside with MtGox one other relatively liquid Bitchoin exhange with also Euros traded.

-- Consider that MtGog did just close it^s exhage during the last Bitcoin crash. To " cool the markets" or just for updating
database. Anyhow, there should be several Bitcoin data cources as alternative B if one exhange gets shut down --
and because the different quality of the data.

btc24 has some intentionally less filtered data that may be useful for comparision to filtered data -- but happens to be
closed now, at least seen from the Bitcoincharts.com website market data.

Currently there are about 2 days of historical data. Not more than that. To get all of the data that is available, go to the chart and select Edit >> Delete All Data and Download.

It is coming by the end of the day tomorrow. Not certain how much history but certainly a lot more than 2 months. We expect it will be about 2 years at least.

This is awesome and much appreciated. So far there was an external tool that pulled the market data and generated a mtgoxUSD.scid in the data directory, so sierrachart could read from there.

The native feed is much better though, obviously.

I'm new to sierracharts and not quite sure if this is implemented yet: Order Book?

I'm yet on free trial but I'd certainly consider subscribing to the BTC packacge if i could display the order book in a way bitcoin.clarkmoody.com does. Is this possible/planned?

Also, I noticed that the "Bid&Ask Depth Charts" are not available in the BTC package -- you need a full subscription for that?

If MTGox had provided a more simplified interface to their market data, this would have been done a year or 2 ago. For us, the whole interface they provide was difficult to work with. Being that we are working with C++, and do low-level coding, it is more involved because the protocols used have to be thoroughly understood.

For the order book you need to use the Market Depth window:
http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/doc_FileMenu.html#OpenMarketDepthWindow

There are 10 levels, but we could go out to 20 levels but just concerned about bandwidth usage.

We think you are referring to Bid and Ask Depth Bars. This study does require package 3 or higher.

Thank you for the quick reply.

D'oh, didn't see the most obvious options in the file menu. This is quite nice. I think it was mentioned previously that the volume exponent is wrong (in the times & sales window a volume of 35 becomes 3500000), I suppose this will be adressed?

Also, I don't know if that is easily possible, but a "group by price" for the Market Depth Window would rock :)

Historical Charts are not yet supported with the Bitcoin data feed. We will try to get this working in the next few days.

For now just set the time frame of a bar for an Intraday chart to 1 Day. Refer to:
