[User Discussion] - Incorrect Data

Support Request:

Hello

I have started my trial with SC, and I have a serious issue. I am looking up GG ticker and its historical Day chart is giving me an extra candle on 8/18/13 (Sunday) and is skewing up everything! I am assuming this is after-hours trading b/c 31.07 was close and its showing 31.20

On the Historical Chart, ALL previous candles have the correct closing price for the NYSE day session except for this 'extra' candle (8/18) that is showing and messing everything up! After researching, I did the following, and it showed the correct day session close: Chart >> Chart Settings >> Advanced Settings. Disable 'Allow Real-Time Updating of Historical Chart'. My only concern is if I keep this disabled, I wont get live data during NYSE open? Thus, this means I have to uncheck and check this box every day to get what I need and if one day I forget to do this, my indicators & analysis will obviously get skewed. Is this correct? I am really trying to find an excuse to purchase SC but I cant be doing this every day before & after market close just to get the correct day session close that I need.

My data is selected through TD AmeriTrade and when I use TOS and even their online portal, I dont have these issues (as the Close is correct) so I doubt its the data.

For the Intraday chart, followed instructions to set it to day session as discussed on your website, and I also set my timezone to EST. It fixed the Intraday chart and the candle looked correct, however, the price axis still marked it as $31.20 so this mean I have to get a tool to manually check the candlesticks' closing price bc the price axis price is different. This is really annoying!

I really want to purchase SC but if I have to deal with this issue on a daily basis, then I would have to consider other options. I mean this is ridiculous, traders should have the option to select day session or after hours and still get Live Data during market open.

Please guide with a solution

Thanks

The price of 31.20 comes from the Ameritrade system. So what you see is based on the data provided by them.

This help topic explains what you are describing in this support request:
http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/helpdetails12.html#h12.3

Please explain how a chart can show the most recent price at the current moment in time and at the same time also show the official settlement price for the last bar? Obviously you cannot have both. Historical charts have no way to filter out data based upon time.

So the solution is to have 2 charts. One chart with Chart >> Chart Settings >> Advanced Settings >>Allow Real-Time Updating of Historical Chart enabled and another one without it enabled.

In the case of Intraday charts, the price scale will always show the most recent price regardless of what the Session Times are set to. This is by design so that you are aware of the most recent price.

First, Thank you for taking time to respond.

I understand the data comes from AmeriTrade but trading platforms can have the ability to filter out data if constructed accordingly. AmeriTrade sends data to other platforms including its own, ThinkorSwim, as well as others like Ninja Trader, yet the issue as stated above is not present in other platforms I have tried. It's interesting how another trader had similar issues with another data provider, brought it to SC support's attention, and the focus by support was more on the data provider than the platform itself.

I feel its rather unacceptable to ask traders to have two charts open just to get the day session close. I really was looking forward to purchasing SC and I hope that in the future, this issue gets rectified

Thanks again for your response

We have nothing further to offer here.

The way that Sierra Chart handles market data is done properly. Historical charts do not have the capability to filter data based on Session Times. This is not reasonably possible for various technical and practical reasons. It sounds like these other programs you are referring to, do not update Historical charts in real-time.

Anyway, you look at things different, and we simply do not have an agreement here and our recommendation is to use another program. We cannot spend further time on this. Your position is not viewed as reasonable to support.

The only other thing you can do, is to have a new chart bar start at the beginning of the evening session and this is documented in help topic 12.6 here:
http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/helpdetails12.html#h12.6

We did not mention this previously, because it sounds as though you would not be happy with this either because you do not want to see any evening trading at all in the chart. The only way to control this, is to contact the data provider and tell them to exclude evening data from the chart bars. And Sierra Chart does have the ability to exclude all real-time data from a Historical chart. You are already aware of that option.

Assuming 12.6 would be helpful to you:
http://www.sierrachart.com/index.php?l=doc/helpdetails12.html#h12.6

Please know that we have set up all of the session times for TD Ameritrade stocks so you do not have to do that. So a new bar in Historical Daily charts will appear at 16:00 New York time assuming there is trading that occurs at that time or after. However , it does not sound as though this is what you want.
