Setup Instructions

  1. To take advantage of all the benefits of Sierra Chart's partnership with TD AMERITRADE, you will need a TD AMERITRADE account. This account will be used as your data and trading service account to use with Sierra Chart. If you do not have an account with TD AMERITRADE, open a TD AMERITRADE account now.
  2. If you have not already registered for a Sierra Chart account, please first register here.
  3. If you have not already downloaded and installed Sierra Chart, please first download and install Sierra Chart.
  4. Once you have Sierra Chart installed, run it or if it is already running, go to Sierra Chart. Select Global Settings >> Data/Trade Service Settings on the menu. Click on the Service list box at the top of the window. Select the TD AMERITRADE service name from the list.
  5. Enter your TD AMERITRADE trading account Username and Password in the corresponding boxes. For help with your username and password, please contact TD AMERITRADE.
  6. Enable the Connect On Program Startup and the Reconnect on failure options.
  7. All data is time stamped to GMT/UTC time. Set the Time Zone control in the Data Settings frame to the time zone you want times to be displayed in. For complete details and instructions to use the Time Zone control, see the Time Zone documentation page.
  8. Click OK to close the Data/Trade Service Settings window.

  10. You can choose to use either the Positions data from TD AMERITRADE or use what is known as the Session Positions data maintained by Sierra Chart. The Session Positions data would reflect only trades made from Sierra Chart. To use the Session Positions, select Global Settings >> Trade Settings and enable Use Session Position for Charts, Flatten and Reverse. If you want to use the TD AMERITRADE Positions data instead, then disable this option. You also probably will want to enable Save Session Position Data between Sessions.
  11. To connect to the data and trade servers, select File >> Connect to Data Feed on the menu.

    You cannot connect to the same TD Ameritrade account from more than one copy of Sierra Chart at the same time. Otherwise you will have connection problems between the copies of Sierra Chart you are running that are connected to the same TD Ameritrade account.
  12. You can open an Intraday chart by selecting File >> New/Open Intraday Chart on the menu. Type the symbol in the Filename box and press Open. The symbol that you enter in the Open File window is the same as the symbols you use on the TD AMERITRADE website.
  13. You can open a Historical chart by selecting File >> New/Open Historical Chart on the menu. Type the symbol in the Filename box and press Open. The symbol that you enter in the Open File window is the same as the symbols you use on the TD AMERITRADE website. TD AMERITRADE provides 15 years of historical daily data.
