The keyboard commands shown to the right of a menu command (item) on a menu can be used to perform the same function as the menu command. Other unlisted keyboard commands are described below.
Changing the Period of the Chart Bars
There are 2 ways to change the period of the bars in a chart:
Fast Changing [Watch the video]
Make the chart you want to change, the active chart if it is not already active by clicking it with the pointer anywhere on the chart window, on the title bar of the chart, or by selecting it from the tabs along the top or bottom (if displayed) or from the Window menu. Type the new period from the keyboard and press the ENTER key on your keyboard. As you type, the characters will appear in the title area of the window. The window captures the keys as you press them. Examples: With an intraday chart, type 10 and press the ENTER key to change the bars to 10 minutes or 10 ticks (depending upon whether the intraday is a minute or tick based chart). You can also change the bar type by entering the single letter code for the type at the end of the period number, see the examples below. With a historical chart, type 5 and press the ENTER key to change to a 5 day bar period. When a chart drawing modification function on the Tools menu, such as Erase Line/Text Mode or Move Line, is active, this feature may not work.
If the chart is an Intraday chart:
- You can switch to a Minute based chart by typing the number of minutes followed by the letter m (for example: 15m).
- You can switch to a Second based chart by typing the number of seconds followed by the letter s (for example: 10s).
- You can switch to a Tick based chart by typing the number of ticks followed by the letter t (for example: 100t).
- You can switch to a Volume based chart by typing the number of shares/contracts followed by the letter v (for example: 100000v).
- You can switch to a Range Bar based chart by typing the range value followed by the letter r (for example: .25r).
- You can switch to a Day based chart by typing the number of days followed by the letter d (for example: 1d).
Changing Through Chart Settings
Or, display the Chart Settings window by selecting Chart >> Chart Settings on the program menu. You can set the period with the controls in the Intraday Chart Period or the Historical Chart Period frame.
